Summary[]
The music video opens with the camera panning to a photo of the cat and the woman who owns him when they were younger. Then, the camera pans to the cat and the woman—they are sitting side by side at two little tables, with bowls of soup.
The woman is eating her soup, and the cat goes and attempts to have a spoonful as well—but as his shaky paw brings the spoon to his mouth, he drops the spoon, making it clank against the glass soup bowl. The woman looks unhappy and disapproving at the cat's failure, and the cat quickly takes the spoon and demonstrates that he can eat properly, which makes the woman smile and pet the cat's head.
The next shot opens with the woman playing a drum. The camera switches to show the cat, dancing in time with the rhythm of the drum. The woman looks pleased.
Suddenly, the cat trips over a ball that was on the floor—as he tries to regain his balance, he manages to stumble out the little door in the room, and ends up falling, rolling out the door and onto his back outside. As he opens his eyes, he sees the desert town they're in, and sees a beautiful mirage in the desert.
The cat is entranced, amazed by the image, and he looks excited and happy. He watches the train come by and go into the mirage, and his eyes tremble in excitement as the camera zooms in on the beautiful blue sky and water of the mirage. Suddenly, the woman's hand appears puts a strange-looking cat mask over the cat's face, interrupting the illusion. The woman is laughing and smiling as she bangs her drum again, and the cat dances like before with the mask on, as they stand outside.
The sky becomes orange as the sun begins to set, and we see that the woman is now asleep. The cat, still wearing the mask, sits as he watches TV alone, watching three unique-looking cats with very long necks dancing on TV. As if to taunt him, the three cats appear in the room and dance around him. The cat reaches up with a shaking paw, and grabs the mask before throwing it to the ground, shattering it. The woman makes a face and turns at the noise in her sleep, but ultimately remains asleep. The cat stares at the TV, the taunting cats now gone.
The cat cleans up the broken mask with a dustpan and broom, and throws away the debris before hanging the dustpan back up. As the woman continues to sleep, the cat appears behind her at the front door with a large backpack on, and looks back at her one last time before leaving through the smaller door. As he leaves, the camera pans to a wide-shot including the table the picture from the beginning of the video is, and now a note lays in front of it that says "Thank you" with a little paw print on it.
The cat heads outside to what is assumed to be the woman's car, and throws his backpack into the seat. It is a vintage car, and the cat has to crank the handle to start it. He appears in the driver's seat with his paws on the steering wheel, and takes off.
As he drives along the sunset train tracks, a train comes past, and the cat sees a young woman with her kitten onboard through the window. The cat, perhaps feeling some remorse, puts on his sunglasses just before tears start to roll down the side of his face. He hits the gas, and speeds past the train, the car crushing a cat skull as he rides into the open desert alongside the train tracks.
The video fades to black as the car drives into the horizon.Tracklist[]
